Monday March 10 – Sunday March 16

0 miles

After being in Marathon for almost 21/2 months we finally got a day the Atlantic Ocean was flat and we didn’t have something else to do so we took the boat out for some snorkeling. There is a coral reef about 5 miles out in the Atlantic called Sombrero Reef. There is a very tall lighthouse to mark this reef and there are mooring balls to tie up to so you don’t have to throw out an anchor and damage any of the coral. We were in about 12-20 foot of water and it was so clear you could see the bottom. We snorkeled for about an hour and saw all kinds of fish and coral. There were parrot fish, yellow tails, sergeant majors, blue tangs, the list goes on and on in all shapes and colors. The amount of coral is breathtaking. As soon as you descend, gorgonians, brain, finger, and lettuce corals can be seen. Several barracudas swam by but they were small ones (thank goodness), and even 1 sea turtle.

Every day we get out for a walk or a bike ride and lately there are more flowers starting to blossom. It still seems strange to see so many different blooming trees, shrubs, and plants in March after living in Michigan for so long.

This little guy (which is about 6" across) crossed the bike path in front of us.
