52 miles     Tarpon Basin, Key Largo to Marine Stadium Basin, Miami, FL

The water all around our anchorage in Tarpon basin is very shallow so we waited for the tide to come up. Also the next anchorage we had for Plan A can be quite busy on the weekends with the locals so we hoped by getting there in the afternoon they would be heading home. No such luck; on to Plan B. We headed another 16 miles north to Marine Stadium Basin which sits right in front of the Miami skyline. This area was first developed in 1963 and covers 240 acres of land and water. There is a stadium (thus the name) that would seat over 6,000 people to watch boat races and concerts. After hurricane Andrew in 1992 it was closed to the public. Since then the basin has been used as an anchorage.

Anchored in Tarpon Basin.

Sitting in 8' of water so clear we can see the anchor chain.

After leaving our anchorage the first open water is Blackwater Sound.

US Highway 1 bridge connecting Florida mainland to the Keys.

Plan A anchorage Boca Chita Key, Biscayne Bay.

  Miami skyline.

 Cruise ship.

Anchorage at Marine Stadium looking east.

Anchorage looking west.

Unused bleachers.
