63 miles Marathon to Tarpon Basin , Key Largo,
FL
This past week was a time to say goodbye to all the friends we
have made in Marathon . It is time to move on. We
left the harbor traveling with George & Mary aboard Beach Quest to a beautiful
sunny sky and very little wind. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to cruise
on the water. After leaving the harbor we headed into the Atlantic making or way
north east toward Key Largo . About half way there
we cut through Channel #5 and went back into the Gulf of Mexico .
Then we hit a mine field of crab pots. They were every where so we had to bob and
weave a lot. The water along this “channel” averaged 5 – 7 feet deep. Most places
it was so clear looking at the bottom we felt is was only about 2 feet. We anchored
in a nice size bay with 3 other boats. (all from Wisconsin )
Our last sunset in Marathon.
This was one of our favorite restaurants (Burdines).
Cruising with "Beach Quest" (Marathon is in the background).
Channel #5 bridge.
Some small Keys and the beautiful colored water.
Narrow channel between Keys.
Tarpon Basin (our anchorage for the night).
Hurricane tower on Key Largo.
Miss you, was good to see you both in February, love reading your travels. All my love.....your little sister.
