59 miles   St. Joe, MI to Hammond, IN

After spending several days in St Joe, waiting 30 minutes for the train bridge to open and a nice new dinghy on board, we cleared the channel at 0702. The waves started out at 1 foot coming out of the south, increased to about 4 feet, and then back down to 1 foot when we got within an hour of our next stop. You could see the Chicago  sky line about half way into our ride. Very impressive.

We arrived at Hammond Marina, Indiana at 1144 (central time), got some fuel and a slip for the night.  It’s seems weird sitting here looking out at the water knowing that we are at the very bottom of Lake Michigan. After docking we took our bikes out and went for a ride to a Wal-Mart which was about 1.5 miles away.

This marina shares space along the water front with a casino. Wow is it big!!! We took a walk thru it and didn’t spend one cent there. Tomorrow we will get in to the Calumet River and start some river cruising south.
