77 miles Peoria to Bar Island, IL mm#85.4
We awoke to another sunny 80 degree day. Left Peoria at 0620 and headed
toward our only lock of the day. When we arrived at the Peoria Lock we were the
only boat so they let us right in. After dropping only 8 feet we were on our way.
Today’s ride took us through an area further away from any towns and we met only
1 tow. The land in this area is very flat with a lot of manmade levees along the
banks to keep in the flood waters.
There was some interesting wildlife during our cruise today. We saw several herons, hawks, and a bald eagle. I swore they almost looked as if they were posing for their pictures.
At 1300 we stopped for the day and anchored behind a little island
called Bar Island
(near Beards Town IL ). Very quite and peaceful.
Sounds like a well-deserved relaxing day!
