Fri. April 18 – Sun. April 20

0  miles      St. Augustine, FL

We spent 3 days touring St. Augustine by foot and trolley. What an amazing city and being the oldest city in the United States has a lot of history. On Sunday they had an Easter Parade which had everything from pirate ships carrying Easter bunnies to Star Wars characters wearing rabbit ears.

Old City Gates. The pillars that remain were supports for
the drawbridge that was the single entrance to the city.

Fort Castillo de san Marcos. This fort started construction in 1672 and took 23 years to build.
It was made with Coquina Stone which is a mix of shell fragments and quartz grain.

 San Sebastian winery.

St. Augustine distillery. (they make vodka, rum, and bourbon)

 St. Augustine Lighthouse.

Looking east from the top of the tower.

Looking west at downtown St. Augustine.

 219 steps to the top.

Ripley's Believe it or not Museum.

Tunnel of oak trees with moss.

Ponce De Leon (discovered FL in 1513).

Fountain of Youth. We both drank from it and boy do we look & feel a lot younger.
(OK maybe not)

This steel cross was erected in 1965, celebrating the city's 400th anniversary. It marks
the spot where Father Lopez conducted the first mass and St. Augustine's beginnings.
(It seemed fitting to tour this on Easter).

Annual Easter Parade. Even the horses wore bonnets.

Not only Easter Bunnies but here is an Easterdillo?
