Wed. April 2 – Thurs. April 10
0 miles Cracker Boy Boatyard, Ft. Pierce
The props were damaged more than we first thought so our few
days out of the water turned into 10 days. We decided to get some maintenance
and cleaning done. Our first project was to take the canvas down from the fly
bridge and clean it. What we used to do back home was soak it over night in a
tub. Since we don’t have a tub on board we improvised and bought a blow up pool.
Once the canvas comes out I think it's time to go swimming.
We found this tree frog sticking his head out from a drain on the boat. This drain comes from
the back bathroom so Randy just turned on the water and he came all the way out.
Other projects included washing the whole boat top to bottom
getting all the salt scum off everything, getting the stratesglass cleaned and
polished, wood work oiled, and the fiberglass got another coat of Poli Glow
(which is a form of wax).
Everyday we take a walk to explore nearby downtown Ft. Pierce .
On Sat. April 5 there was an Oyster Festival in the park in town. There were
oysters (of course), music, a nautical flea market, and arts and crafts galore.
Tuesday (April 8) a friend (Jonathon) we met last fall
cruising, came to pick us up and we spent the day driving around sight seeing.
We toured the National Navy Seals Museum and a sea turtle nature center, stopped
at a couple of beaches along the Atlantic, and then Jonathon took us to see his
home/work place which is a fish camp that has been in his family for several
generations.
This is a piece from the World Trade Center.
PBR (patrol boat, river) used by Navy Seals in Vietnam.
Apollo Space capsules.
Beach near Sebastian.
Honest Johns Fish Camp with Jonathon, his mother, & Randy.
Jonathon & M/V Salty. This is the boat he did the Great Loop in last year.
Thurs. we finally got our props back and put on the boat.
Tomorrow morning we go back in the water and head north.
"Like New" props. Wow almost too pretty to put in the water.
Looks beautiful and warm. Still floating ice in Lake Macatawa back home.
