Labor Day Sept. 2

7 miles     Green Turtle Bay to Pisgah Bay, KY

We ended up staying 3 nights at Green Turtle Bay marina. This area is very busy with weekend boaters also. Besides it was a lot more fun meeting and talking with other boaters here in the marina.

Sunday Sept. 1 we got out early to take a walk before it got too hot. While walking we surprised some deer. Mom got away to fast for a picture but I did catch her 2 fawns.

Several turtles (hence the name Green Turtle Bay marina).

Later on we met up with a couple (Rick & Monica) who are in the planning stages of the Great Loop (boy do we remember those years). They were kind enough to take us for a ride on there boat to an area we would be traveling to in the days ahead.

Monday we left the marina at 1100 and traveled a whole 7 miles which took us 1 hour. We traveled through the Barkley canal which is a mile and half long canal that connects Barkley Lake (Cumberland River) and Kentucky Lake (Tennessee River). The 170,000 acres of land between the 2 lakes as you head south is a National Park which is rich in natural beauty and has over 200 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, and campgrounds. We will probably be spending at least a week if not longer in this lake. There are a lot of little bays and inlets to anchor in. The water temp. is 87 degrees and with the air temp. expected to be over 90 this will be a great place to jump in the water and float. Our first anchorage is in Pisgah Bay which is one of the areas Rick & Monica took us to yesterday.

The other area we went to will have to wait till tomorrow.
So stay tuned for some very unique pictures.
