We decided to stay another day in Decatur on the free dock. We put the dinghy down
and went for a ride. There wasn’t any place along the river to dock the dinghy
and go walk downtown so we just checked out the area by the water. It was a
very mellow day to catch up on some cleaning and other odd and ends. Later in
the afternoon we found a walkway by a smaller river near the boat and took a
walk.
Free dock in Decatur. Priorities on the left and a Paddle boat on the right.
Monday Sept. 16
53 miles Decatur to Guntersville, AL
We left Decatur
at 0730. The mornings are starting to get a little cooler. Today started out in
the 60’s then got up around 82 degrees. The industry around Decatur gave way to some beautiful scenery
after only a few miles. The river was so calm you could see the reflection
along the bank.
About 2 ½ hours into our ride we passed Redstone Arsenal
which is an Army military post. The only part we could see was a recreational
area set for Army personnel and their families to use. There was a boat launch,
softball field, volleyball, and a playground for their kids.
Just after passing the Army post we thought we were under
attack. They must have been practicing firing off some good size weapons. We could
hear some very loud booms and then the echoes from them.
We arrived in Guntersville at 1330 and pulled up to another
free dock. Boy is the dutch coming out in us or what!
