Tuesday Sept. 4

0 miles

We awoke to a quite peaceful morning all alone in the bay. I guess everyone else had to go back to work. We brought the dinghy ashore and took a nice walk, did some cleaning, and then Randy got a haircut. It sure must be nice to have a personal hairdresser with you on board. We then took a ride in the dinghy to what is called the Rock Quarry. There is a little bit of everything painted on these rocks.

When we came here on Sunday with Rick and Monica the whole bay was full of boats, with several rafted together. There was music playing, people swimming, and grills cooking food. It reminded us of some of our weekends back home when we would anchor in Spring Lake.

Not long after our dinghy ride another boat came into the bay and anchored. The boat is a 38 foot Bayliner called Time and Tide. The owners (Gary & Christelle) spent some time last year traveling with very good friends of ours. This couple has already completed the Great Loop once and is now on their second time around.

Wednesday Sept. 5

5 miles     Pisgah Bay to Sugar Bay, KY

Gary and Christelle (from Time and Tide) came over on their dinghy to have coffee this morning. We spent a couple of hours getting to know them and making some new friends.

Kentucky lake is a boaters paradise. It measures 184 miles long and 2 miles wide. There are dozens of little bays off the main lake. Most are deep enough to anchor in. Because this area is a National Park most of the bays have boat launches and camping sites. They are very primitive sites but the views are amazing.

At 1220 we left Pisgah Bay to move on to our next anchorage. We arrived at Sugar Bay at 1315. We anchored near a boat launch so we took the dinghy over to get out and walk. There are trails through some of the areas we have been to but we prefer to walk on the gravel roads winding through the camping areas. We weren't quite sure what we might encounter along the trails. We were told rattlesnakes and water moccasins live in this area.

We didn't encounter any snakes but we did come across this little fellow. After looking on the internet we think he is a Six-lined Racerunner.
