Tuesday Sept. 17

This morning we got the bikes down and went for a ride. Just across the road from the harbor we are in is a bike path so we went exploring. The path follows along the shore of Lake Guntersville and is about 7 miles long. Along the way we passed a farmers market, which we stopped at on the way back. All along this path are several covered picnic areas and seats to stop and look out at the lake.

We passed a recreational area which held just about every type of sport. There was baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, horseshoe, and skateboarding. They also had playground equipment, a band shell, pool and senior center. All of this was set up along the banks of the lake.

After we got back to the boat a local couple (George & Sandy) stopped by to introduce themselves. They are members of the AGLCA (same association we belong to) and some day they want to do the Great Loop like us. They took us for a ride on their boat and showed us around the area and then took us out to eat at a local restaurant. It amazes me the kindness of the people we have met so far on our travels.

We decided to stay another day in Guntersville. The bikes came out for another ride along the bike path. Along the way we met up with George & Sandy who were out for a walk. They very graciously asked if we would like to spend the day with them. This time we took off in their car to show us around. We went to a near by town called Scottsboro. This town is the home of a very large store called Unclaimed Baggage Center. So of course we went shopping. We found a very good deal on an IPad.

After leaving Scottsboro they took us to Lake Guntersville State Park. This park has a resort lodge, restaurant, convention complex, campground, and golf course all set in 6,000 acres of hills and woods overlooking Guntersville Lake.

Driving by the campground we saw several deer. They are so used to people we could get very close to them.
