The winds picked up last night and whipped up the waves in
the bay so we are staying another day. Mobile Bay
is 31 miles long and 24 miles wide. The average depth
of the Bay is only 10’, except the shipping channel, which is sometimes in excess of 75’. Because it is so shallow and narrow the wind starts pushing the
water around like a washing machine. Around here if they call for a small craft
advisory that means any thing under 100’.
There is always something to do around a boat. Randy did
some waxing and I baked some cookies. I gave Randy a haircut and then went for
a walk. During my walk I passed this ant mound. If you step on one of these
hundreds of red ants come out and if they get on you they will bite and bite
and bite! (I think you get the picture).
There is a very large bridge next to the marina which I figured
would give me a great vantage point for some good pictures of the bay and marina.
The winds and water calmed down around 3:00 pm but by then it was too late in
the day to head out.
