Thursday Oct. 3

0 miles

This morning we hopped on a city bus which took us to the Incline Railway at Lookout Mountain. There is a trolley style railcar that takes you up the mountain 1 mile. Near the top the grade of the track turns to 72.7% making this the steepest railway in the world. As you are traveling up you get quite a view because the roof is all glass.

 Track looking up.

You sit facing down so this the view as you go up.

The view from the top. On a clear day you can see 6 states.

 Another car coming up.

Now we are on the way down.

At the top where you get off is mostly residential. We walked 3 blocks to the Chickamauga & Chattanooga Military Park. This park is the site of a major Civil war battle. But it was closed due to our Government being on strike, so we couldn’t walk around and check it out.

After getting back to the boat we spent the evening talking to a couple from the boat next us who started doing the Loop in Virginia.
