Thursday Oct. 10

Our weather today was sunny and 80 degrees. We decided to stay another day in Decatur, AL at the free dock. Randy wanted to change the oil in the engines. Docked in front of us is the Pickwick Belle which is a 100 foot paddle boat. The captain (Mike) and 1st mate (Jeremy) came over to talk to us. When they found out Randy was changing the oil Mike offered to take the used oil to Car Quest for us for recycling. Mike then invited us for a free ride on the paddle boat.

During the ride Jeremy pointed out some wood rails that were on the bank in the water. He then told us that during World War II Decatur built boats that were launched into the water at this site.

Also during the ride Mike asked if we would like a turn at steering the boat. Both Randy and I took him up on the offer. Now we can both say we have driven a 100 foot boat and a paddle boat.

Both Mike and Jeremy were very curious about the trip we are taking so we invited them to stop by after there 6:00 pm cruise tonight.
