Mon. April 28 - Thurs. May1    0915/0945

1 mile      Beaufort River, SC to Lady’s Island Marina Beaufort, SC

We left our anchorage and got to the dock at the marina early so we could go tour downtown Beaufort. What a beautiful town with lots of local artists. We took a horse and carriage ride through the historic part of town and learned about the history of the area. Riding past those homes I could just picture myself sitting on the balcony looking out over the river.

Beaufort waterfront.

 The Arsenal built in 1798.

The branches of these oak trees grow to the ground then back up.

One of the benches in downtown.

 "The Castle" built in 1860.

We fell in love with these curving staircases.

 Our marina (at low tide).

Our plan was to only spend one night here and move on but as we all know plans change. The weather turned really ugly with thunderstorms and even tornados so we decided to stay put till things calmed down.
If you have to be stuck somewhere this area is a good place to be. The marina has courtesy bikes and a car to use and the staff here is very nice and helpful. Shopping is only a few blocks away along with a large assortment of restaurants. We met 2 couples from other boats that are also traveling north so we have had fun getting to know them.
