Sat. May 3    0700/1030

22 miles     Church Creek, SC to Charleston, SC

After arriving in Charleston we got the boat docked and took off walking around the city. Charleston is another beautiful city with a lot of history. We took a carriage ride first to learn some of the history, and then walked around for about 3 hours. There is a market that is 4 blocks long. It used to be a slave market where the slaves took produce and fish to sell. Now it’s kind of like a flea market with higher end products.

Cruising through a narrow cut along the ICW.

I couldn't resist taking this picture. How fitting to see a
windmill on the same day Tulip Time starts back home.

These baskets are called Fanner baskets or Sweetgrass baskets.
They are made locally by descendants of the slaves who first came here.

Ballast stone street.

Behind these circle plates are long metal rods with turn buckles that are drilled through the rafters, coupled together then tightened to bring the walls back together after bulging out when an earthquake hit. Many of the historic buildings were fixed using this method.
