Fri. June 20     0930/1300

16 miles           Lakefield (lock 26) to Lovesick (lock 30)

Today the landscape changed from gentle limestone to rugged granite. We had to go through a 4 mile stretch that is called Hells Gate. This section takes a winding path through very narrow markers and past many little islands. And “Oh Boy” do you make sure you stay between the green and red markers. Out side of the marked channel is ROCK. The water is starting to get a lot clearer and at 10 feet you can see all the rocks on the bottom. We went through 3 locks, (yes I can count – there is no lock 29) and stopped at Lovesick, (lock 30) for the night. This lock is very secluded and is situated on an island. Even the lock attendants take a boat to get here. We were told we could be sharing this spot tonight with raccoons and maybe a bear (Oh my).

Baby minks.

 Leaving lock 26.

Lock 27 Outpost shops. There was a dredger coming through so we tied up
here for about an hour and walked though the shops right next to the lock.

Hells Gate (very narrow rocky channel but beautiful)

St. Peters-on-the-Rock Anglican Church. Still conducts services in July & Aug.
There's even a dock for boats to tie up to.

 Lock 26 Lovesick.

 Randy & Nelson fishing.

Heritage Canoe Side. Constructed in the 1930's to assist trappers & fisherman
to portage the dam and locks during the off season.

23 miles          Lovesick (lock 30) to Bobcaygeon (lock 32)

We didn’t see any bears nor were we visited by any raccoons during the night.

Our ride today was nice and short but went from one extreme to another. Last night was a secluded island with just 2 boats, to a town with boats tied to every space available on the lock walls and boats cruising back and forth through town. (which is a very narrow canal and lock) We plan on staying here 2 nights. Tomorrow starts bike week here and things should get even more interesting watching boats and motorcycles.

The granite rocks gave way to trees. (This area reminded us of MI).

Pigeon Lake. (doesn't look anything like the Pigeon Lake we know).

  Coming into Bobcaygeon.

Looking out the back of the boat toward the lock.

Out the front of the boat.
