Thurs. June 5    0820/1730

48 miles        Waterford, NY to Amsterdam, NY

What a day!!! Today we started traveling through the Erie Canal. It started out just fine with a light wind and overcast sky. By 2:00 the wind picked up and it was getting a little harder to keep the boat under control in the locks. Most of the locks have a free wall you can tie up to at night but several of those walls were shut down due to construction. So after 9 hours and 11 locks we finally got to a place where we could tie up for the night.

Several of the locks were so close you could see the next one while still in one.
