Tues. June 10    0600/1330

67 miles           Oswego, NY to Picton, Ontario (Canada)

The winds were in our favor as we crossed Lake Ontario with flat water, but the fog was not. During the first10 miles of our crossing we had less than ¼ mile visibility. Then the sun came out and burned the fog off. We entered on the Canadian side of the lake through the Bay of Quinte and stopped in a town called Picton to check into Customs.

Leaving Oswego NY.

 Oswego Lighthouse.

 Going into the fog bank.

First thing we see in Canada is a power plant.

 Next came farms.

 Bay of Quinte.

Swan greeting us by the marina.

Since there wasn’t a Custom office in Picton as soon as we got tied up at the dock one person may get off the boat and go directly to a phone (not a cell phone) and place a call to the Customs office. They asked a lot of questions about us, the boat, and how long we planed on staying in Canada. Once they were satisfied, we were given a number which must be placed on the boat for any Customs officer to see the entire time we are in Canada.

0 miles       Picton, Ontario

Last night some friends (Gary & Christelle, Canadians we met last fall cruising on the rivers) came over to visit and have dinner.

Today we had rain all morning so decided to get some cleaning and maintenance done. Gary & Christelle will be coming over again tonight and then tomorrow Christelle is taking us on a wine tour and showing us the area. (Gary has to work so he will miss out on the fun).
